Registration & Check In
• Please ensure that you arrive at least 30 minutes before your scheduled category start time. This will ensure you have enough time to check in and prepare for the race start
• At the Pitt Street Mall, please proceed to the Registration & Check In desk, located towards the Market Street end of the Mall
• Upon confirmation of your name and registration, you will receive your Race Pack, including race singlet, numbered bib with safety pins, and timing chip
• The timing chip goes around your ankle and should be worn at all times throughout the race. It will be collected by event marshals immediately after you cross the finish line
• There will be a free ‘cloak room service’ available behind the stage area where you can leave your bags and jumpers while you race
Race Format
• Each race category will start at the start line in Pitt St Mall
• The event MC will announce each upcoming race category and participants in that race category will be requested to head to the marshalling area – just behind the start line
• Race categories will be started in ‘wave starts’ of about 20 participants at a time, except elite athletes who will be started individually
• Participants will then race from the start, down the Pitt St Mall and into the Sydney Tower building stairwell, going from Ground Level to Level 10
• At Level 10, the course opens into a wide corridor – this is your best chance to overtake before the course goes back into a narrow stairwell
• Up another level and you’re into the actual tower, then you’re on the ‘up and up’ - all the way until you come out at the Observation Level, about 250m above the point at which you started!
• Once you go through the finish arch, your time is recorded and event marshals will then collect your timing chip
• Once all participants in a race category have finished the race, the timings of each participant is evaluated and the top 3 placegetters for each category are announced
• Please note that the races are all time based, so the first to the finish line is not necessarily the race winner
• Once the top 3 placegetters are announced, they will receive a ticket indicating their place and be escorted down to the Pitt St Mall stage for the presentation ceremony
• All other competitors will be directed to the Tower Lifts to return to Pitt Street level
Drink Stations
• A drink station will be available immediately after the finish line at the top of the tower
• Drink stations will also be set up in the Mall for the use of competitors only
• Drinks are not allowed in the stairwell for safety reasons
Rules and general sportsmanship
• Please keep to the railing whilst climbing the stairwell
• If it is obvious someone wants to overtake you, please enable them to do so
• Do not push, shove or block other runners
• Failure to maintain good sportsmanship will result in disqualification
Health & Safety
• First Aid personnel will be onsite and will be positioned at different locations throughout the tower.
• Please note that once inside the actual tower, you can only exit via two ways – the top of the stairwell, and the bottom of the stairwell
• Therefore if you are not feeling well at Level 11, please consider that it is the last chance to exit the race before entering the actual tower, where there is no way out until you get to the top.
• Should an injury or medical emergency occur within the tower, communication will need to be made with emergency services personnel – therefore 2way radios will be positioned at various points throughout the tower stairwell
• If you witness a medical emergency, please take note of the floor number the injured person is on, leave someone with them and find a 2way radio, to inform first aid personnel of the location and condition of the injured person
• 2way radios will be located on floors 22, 34, 46, 58 and 70. There will also be signage in between these floors indicating the nearest 2way radio
• In the event of a safety or medical emergency, the race will be stopped. Please follow ALL instructions from event marshals, security and emergency services personnel, even if they tell you to stop running at any point throughout the course
• Please make way for first emergency personnel attempting to get to an injured person, as the stairwell is quite narrow
• Finally, your safety is our greatest concern. If you have been ill or do not feel up to it on the day, put your welfare first and please do not enter the event. Please err on the side of caution, and consult your Doctor if you are unsure if your fitness has been affected by recent or current illness.
